Isle of Lewis

Dùn Èistein Rises

A Bold Highland Song of the Morrisons

This song is inspired by one of the popular tales on the origins of the Morisons:

Eight centuries ago, a Norse ship battled heavy seas off the Isle of Lewis, carrying Lauon, a noblewoman of Kintyre, her newborn son Gillemorrie, and her husband, Olaf the Black. When the vessel foundered, the three clung to driftwood and, by fate’s mercy, washed ashore on the rocky coast, shaken but alive.

Dùn Èistein is the historical clan seat at Isle of Lewis.

Lyrics:

Through storm and tide, we made our stand,

Cast upon this rugged land.

With driftwood strong and hearts of steel,

We carved our fate, we would not kneel.

By Somerled’s fire, by Viking’s blade,

We forged our name, we were not swayed.

From Lewis’ shores to battle’s cry,

The Morrison blood will never die!

Dùn Èistein rises, hear the call!

Through winds of war, we’ll never fall.

Brieves of justice, bold and free,

Morrison’s name rings through the sea!

A judge, a warrior, bound as one,

Under northern skies and setting sun.

The heather burns beneath our tread,

We fear no foe, we march ahead!

By Somerled’s fire, by Viking’s blade,

We forged our name, we were not swayed.

From Lewis’ shores to battle’s cry,

The Morrison blood will never die!

Dùn Èistein rises, hear the call!

Through winds of war, we’ll never fall.

Brieves of justice, bold and free,

Morrison’s name rings through the sea!

From king’s own blood, from shipwreck’s tide,

We hold the law, we hold our pride.

No chain can bind, no storm can break,

We fight, we rise, for honor’s sake!

Dùn Èistein rises, hear the call!

Through winds of war, we’ll never fall.

Brieves of justice, bold and free,

Morrison’s name rings through the sea!

Dùn Èistein… Dùn Èistein… The fortress stands… Forevermore.
